Domestic Workers Will Soon Be Covered by the NJ Law Against Discrimination
As of July 2024, domestic workers will be protected from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in employment under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. Examples of domestic workers are housekeepers, in-home caretakers for children, in-home caretakers for elderly people, chefs, and butlers.
The New Jersey Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights Act also amends the definition of employer to include any person or entity that provides compensation for the performance of domestic services.

Required Posters
On August 1, 2022, DCR adopted new and amended regulations to increase the visibility and effectiveness of posters that the State requires employers, housing providers, and places of public accommodation to display to inform people of their rights under New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination (LAD) and Family Leave Act (FLA). All covered businesses, employers, and housing providers are required by law to display the applicable posters.
If you have prior versions of these posters displayed, please remove them and replace them with the updated posters, which can be found here. Click here to read the regulations and here to read the press release.

Building on Progress: Conversations on the State of Fair Housing in New Jersey
Join the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights during National Fair Housing Month to celebrate the 79th Anniversary of the Law Against Discrimination. In this webinar we will explore the victories and current challenges in fair and affordable housing. Panel participants will discuss longstanding issues and new issues relating to fair housing, including those related to systemic discrimination. The panelists will culminate the discussion by identifying solutions to reduce housing discrimination and bias.

The Impact of Appraisal Discrimination on New Jersey’s Communities of Color
Join New Jersey fair housing and industry experts for a discussion on systemic racial inequities in appraisal practices. Racial disparities in residential property appraisals, along with other discriminatory housing practices, contribute to the racial wealth gap, to segregated neighborhoods, and to inequality in homeownership rates.
Panelists will share historical context on housing inequality, the ways bias appears in residential property appraisals, and explain strategies for advancing equity in the appraisal process. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers.
